A Sibling Rivalry On Kimball's Volleyball Team
KIMBALL, Minn. (WCCO) -- It can be hard trying to get along with your brothers and sisters every day. It's even harder if you play on the same varsity volleyball team together. Three sisters in Kimball, however, have found a way to make it work.
Shannon, Emily and Holly Donnay are all varsity players. Shannon, the senior, set a school record last year for blocks in a season. Emily, a junior, could end up breaking her sister's record. And Holly, just a freshman, is on varsity because she can set them both.
"I've been involved in volleyball for 15 to 20 years and this is the first time I've ever seen three sisters playing together on the floor," said Coach Amy Notch.
"It's pretty cool. It's different. I was expecting to play with Emily. I wasn't expecting to play with Holly. Now that she's playing with us it's pretty neat," said Shannon.
It's not just about volleyball. The sisters also play basketball and Shannon and Holly play softball. But it's on the volleyball court where these three sisters have a chance to shine as a family.
Like any family, some days they have their issues.
"We'll have fights in the morning, but then when it comes to volleyball, we are all serious," said Emily. :We know we can't fight on the court. We kind of let everything go and get along."
It doesn't mean they aren't competitive. These three are responsible for leading a Kimball team that finished second in the conference a year ago.
They say the the sibling rivalry makes them better, because they know being teammates and sisters is pretty special.
