Shutdown Prevents MN Couple From Bringing Baby Home
ALEXANDRIA, Minn. (WCCO) -- As Minnesota's shutdown enters its eleventh day, an Alexandria couple is feeling the effects of the stalemate.
Recently, Greg and Christi Bohl adopted their first child but are unable to bring her home. The couple is stuck in Cedar Rapids, Iowa with their 2-week-old daughter, Brooklyn.
The adoption was completed just after the Fourth of July, however the paperwork necessary to complete the adoption, allowing them to return home with their daughter, is on hold.
"We are kind of stuck here in Iowa due to the shutdown. We just want to come home," said Greg Bohl.
The couple says they're hoping to get special consideration so the necessary paperwork can be completed.
"(The Attorney General's Office) said it could happen either today or tomorrow, they weren't 100 percent sure," said Greg Bohl.
If it wasn't for the shutdown the couple would have returned home just after July 4th.
Greg Bohl said it's the unknown that is the most difficult part: "We're so close, yet so far away."
