Shots Fired During Argument Between Duck Hunters
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Police are investigating after two parties of duck hunters got into an argument that led to shots being fired.
Dakota County Sheriff Deputies were called to Spring Lake Park on a report of shots fired at a around 2:37 p.m. Thursday.
Upon arrival, they spoke with a hunter who said he was confronted by another hunting party as he was placing his decoys in the water. Words were exchanged, he said, and the argument grew heated.
Shots were fired by one hunting party at the hunters in the water placing the decoys. The victim and witnesses told police pellets hit the side of their boat, but no one was injured.
Ken Hruza was hunting nearby when he overheard what happened.
"We just heard some yelling and heard...I don't know if it was one shot or two shots," he said.
Dakota County deputies then searched for the suspects. At 3:45 p.m., a suspect was apprehended on an island near the assault. He was positively identified by the victim and arrested.
Dan Louis is a friend of the victim. He says his friend is "shook up" over the incident.
"He's just disgusted about it, like everyone else," Louis said. "It's just something that should never happen."
That type of behavior, Louis said, ruins the sport for everyone.
The investigation will be completed by the sheriff's office and sent to the Dakota County Attorney's Office for possible charges.
