Sheriff: Suspected armed burglars shoot Hennepin County deputy's squad car on I-94
MINNEAPOLIS -- The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office says a bullet hit a squad car's windshield during a chase early Thursday morning on Interstate 94 in Minneapolis -- and whoever pulled the trigger is still on the streets.
It all started at about 2:30 a.m. when the Brooklyn Center Police Department responded to a report of armed burglars on 57th Avenue North. A sheriff's deputy spotted a vehicle matching the description and tried to stop it, but the driver hit the gas.
As the chase raced down I-94, the suspect started shooting near Lowry Avenue. The sheriff's office says the deputy wasn't injured and didn't return fire.
Investigators closed down I-94 for hours and combed for clues with flashlights. But so far, deputies haven't made any arrests.
Police did not tell WCCO who, or what kind of vehicle, they are searching for in this case.
