Sheriff: Suspect Targeted In Mayo Clinic Pipe Bomb
WINONA, Minn. (AP) -- Winona County sheriff's officials say they've targeted a 17-year-old suspect in a pipe bomb incident at Mayo Clinic in Rochester.
Sheriff Dave Brand said Thursday they are seeking an arrest warrant to take the teen into custody. Brand says Winona County is involved because that's where the teen made the 3-foot-long pipe bomb, which contained gunpowder and fireworks.
Authorities say the youth was in the hospital in Rochester and the bomb was in the trunk of his mother's car. She alerted security when she found it while visiting her son. It was safely detonated elsewhere and no one was hurt.
Brand says the youth apparently didn't intend to hurt anyone and had made pipe bombs in the past at the Utica residence he rented with his mother.
