Sheriff Seeking Help To Find Carver County Hit & Run Driver
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Carver County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in solving a hit-and-run accident.
They're trying to find the driver of a large pick-up truck who hit a pedestrian and then kept going. A Minnesota Department of Transportation traffic management camera captured video of the accident and pictures of the truck.
It happened to Brad Hanson at the intersection of Highway 101 and Highway 5 in Chanhassen. WCCO's Angela Davis spoke with Hanson on Wednesday.
"I'm not sure if I hit the front of the truck or not, but it threw me down like a rag doll," Hanson said.
He is still recovering from his injuries, but back to handling his household chores. We found him mowing the grass at his home. Six weeks ago, he was in a lot of pain.
"He was coming this way, came right around and clipped me right here. You can still feel the hard lump," he said as he showed the side of his body that was hit and the injury to his arm.
Brad says he was trying to cross the street to get to his job when he was struck by a big truck. It was around 6:40 a.m. on Sept. 28.
"Another half millisecond and I would have been hit head-on and that probably wouldn't have turned out well," he said.
MnDOT cameras are perched above the intersection of Highway 101 and 5 in Chanhassen. Photos show what the truck looks like. It's a Ford Super Duty that's towing a 16-foot enclosed trailer.
"I couldn't say whether the person actually knew he hit me or not. I would think that he would have, or they, they would have known," he said.
Investigators say the cameras recorded video of the truck hitting Hanson, throwing him into the median. The driver appears to brake for a moment, before continuing east on Highway 5. Several people witnessed what happened and stopped to help.
Brad says he doesn't know if the driver even knew he or she hit a person.
"I don't want to cause pain for somebody else, but if they did know they should have stopped. That's the bottom line," Hanson said.
Carver County deputies are hoping that the pictures of truck will help bring in some new leads. Anyone with information related to this incident or any crime is asked to contact the Carver County Sheriff's Office at (952) 361-1231 or use the tip line (952) 361-1224.
As for Brad's injuries, there were no broken bones but his arm became extremely swollen. Doctors later discovered severe bruising.
The Carver County Sheriff's Office said the accident is still under investigation.
