Sheriff: Duluth Resident Steals Truck, Firearms Before Chase
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 52-year-old Duluth resident was taken into custody Thursday after stealing a pick-up truck, firearms and leading authorities on a chase that ended near the Duluth Airport, authorities said.
The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office responded to a burglary in progress at about 4:44 p.m. Thursday at a residence on Lismore Road. The suspect stole the victim's 2005 Chevy Silverado pick-up truck along with several firearms. Authorities attempted to stop the suspect after the suspect went through a stop sign, but a chase ensued.
The pursuit was headed towards the Duluth International Airport, but the suspect vehicle crashed on a roadway leading to the 148th Air National. The suspect fled the vehicle and entered a wooded area, authorities said.
The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office eventually took the suspect into custody on the airfield. Authorities said the firearms and other stolen property were found inside the vehicle. Authorities said the incident is still under investigation, and the suspect has not been identified.
