Sheriff: Bus Stuck In High Water In Stearns County, Driver Hurt
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A bus driver was hurt late Saturday night after his vehicle got stuck in high water after heavy rain came through central Minnesota, according to the Stearns County Sheriff's Office.
Authorities received a report of a driving hazard at about 11:20 p.m. A woman was with her husband in another vehicle and called 911 after their vehicle was stuck in high water that was rising in the area of County Roads 157 and 172 in Oak Township, which is just east of Freeport.
Emergency responders with Freeport Fire and Rescue were called to rescue the people at the scene. When officers arrived, several vehicles in the area were surrounded by water, including a small bus carrying 14 people and the driver was injured.
Authorities said the driver and passengers were able to walk through waist deep water to a dry area. The driver, a 54-year-old Albany man, was transported to Albany Hospital. The area had received a large amount of rain prior to the call and several roads were under water.
The Stearns County Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by the Albany Police Department, Freeport Fire and Rescue, the Minnesota State Patrol and other agencies. The roads had to be blocked off for a short time due to high water after storms had passed through.
