Sheriff: Arrest Made After Chanhassen Teen Assaulted With Baseball Bat
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities say a 19-year-old man was arrested in Arizona Sunday after he allegedly assaulted a Chanhassen teen with a baseball bat in a church parking lot.
The Carver County Sheriff's Office received a report that the assault took place at about 4:50 a.m. at the Westwood Community Church in Chanhassen. The victim, identified as 18-year old Oliver Smith, was assaulted shortly after meeting with a juvenile female friend at the church.
Authorities said the female called Smith and asked him to meet her in the parking lot of the church to discuss a personal matter. When Smith attempted to get into her car, he was attacked by a man wearing black clothing. Smith said the attacker hit him over the head several times with a baseball bat. The two fought, Smith was able to get the bat from the man and he fled the scene.
The juvenile female took Smith to a hospital, where he was treated for injuries in the assault and released.
The suspect, a 19-year-old man from Flagstaff, Ariz., who knew the woman, was later located in Arizona and taken into custody. Authorities determined that the suspect knew the juvenile female and they arranged the assault on Smith.
The Carver County Sheriff's Office said the case is under investigation.
