Sheriff: Alcohol Played Role In Fatal Northern Minn. Crash
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Officials in northern Minnesota say alcohol played a role in a fatal crash early Thanksgiving morning.
The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office says the crash happened at 1:40 a.m. in Alborn Township, which is about 30 miles northwest of Duluth.
A car carrying four people rolled on Shipley Road, just east of Highway 7. Two people were thrown from the car.
A 48-year-old Chevra Ziegler of Shoreview died in the crash. H
The car's driver, 33-year-old Sherri Spillers of Alborn, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. She was brought to Essentia Hospital, along with a passenger, 52-year-old Randy Ostman, who was listed in critical condition.
Another passenger, a 23-year-old man from Alborn, suffered minor injuries.
The sheriff's office says that since alcohol was a contributing factor to the crash, charges may come down pending further investigation.
The accident is under investigation by the sheriff's office and the State Patrol.
