Sherels Tries To Make His Own 'Minnesota Miracle'
MANKATO, Minn. (WCCO) – Marcus Sherel's is living the NFL dream through every Minnesota connection possible.
He played his high school football in Rochester, then spent four years at the University of Minnesota. Now, he's in his second full season with the Minnesota Vikings after spending last year on the team's practice squad.
He's trying to create his own "Minnesota Miracle."
"Everyone says I got a good story to tell. High school in Rochester, college in Minnesota and now trying to make the pros in Minnesota, so it's a dream come true," Sherels said.
After spending most of last year on the practice squad, Sherels is trying to break through on the team's 53-man roster and become part of Minnesota's core of cornerbacks.
Sherels is a low-key guy. He doesn't talk a whole lot, but he prefers to let his actions speak for themselves on the football field. During the NFL lockout Sherels stayed quiet and trained hard, making sure he would be ready for camp when the bell finally rang.
"I worked out every day pretty much back in Rochester. I put on a lot of weight and got a lot stronger and faster," Sherels said.
Despite his Minnesota connections, Sherels did not grow up rooting for the Vikings.
"I used to be all about the Cowboys but now I'm a Vikings fan so that's all that matters," Sherels said.
