'She Is A Damn Good Mom': Neighbor On Pond Crash Driver
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Three of the five children who were submerged in a metro holding pond following a car crash Thursday morning were those of the 23-year-old driver, the State Patrol says. The other two children belonged to her boyfriend, neighbors say.
Marian Guerrido, of Brooklyn Center, Minn., was able to escape the car she'd been driving as it sank into the St. Louis Park holding pond. The children, which officials identified earlier Thursday, were submerged in the pond at the intersection of Highways 7 and 100 for 25-45 minutes. Two of them later died.
All of those surviving suffered serious injuries are being treated at area hospitals, officials say.
Guerrido lived with her boyfriend and the five children. Neighbor Amy Minor says she saw Guerrido with the children Thursday morning.
"I saw her this morning when they were taking the kids to school," she said. "I was sitting right here, and I saw them leaving going to school."
Minor heard about the terrible accident and was shocked to hear Marion was the driver.
"Marion has a young baby, she just turned one," Minor said.
She and other neighbors say Guerrido and her boyfriend each have two children from previous relationships.
Neighbor Antonio Maxwell said Guerrido was always looking out for the children.
"She is a damn good mom," he said. "We be knowing her for five years. She is a damn good mom, she loved them. She even helped raise her boyfriend's kids…she is a good mother."
Neighbors described Guerrido as shy and quiet.
"She's a very quiet girl," Minor said. "She doesn't talk much."
