Seniors Sing For Some R-E-S-P-E-C-T From Lawmakers
ST. PAUL (WCCO) -- A group of seniors used music to get out their message about budget cuts on Tuesday at the Minnesota State Capitol.
The rock-n-roll group Alive 'n' Kickin is a 23-member singing group that performs music by more modern artists like Queen, the Bee Gees and Aretha Franklin.
Seniors and their supporters rallied at the state capitol to send a message that seniors are a priority in Minnesota. They're concerned about budget cuts that could have a big impact on many lives.
"There are a lot of cuts to older adult services, cuts that would affect people's ability to remain in their own homes, and that matters a lot to us. Cuts that would affect workers, cuts that would affect the services that we provide seniors. So we're all here together to send a message for legislators to do the right thing for seniors," said Gayle Kvenvold, the President of Aging Services of Minnesota.
The group said 63 nursing homes in the state are facing financial problems that could put more than 8800 jobs at risk.
