Semi Crash Diverting Traffic Into Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities said all incoming traffic to the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport is back on as normal Thursday, hours after a semi-truck hit a clearance bar and got stuck, forcing travelers to get diverted to a different part of the airport.
An airport spokesperson said the accident happened early Thursday morning in the inbound traffic lanes to Terminal 1 at the airport. A semi-truck that was too tall for the "headache" bars, which are in place as clearance warnings, hit one of them and kept driving, then hit another "headache bar" and got stuck.
Authorities said all traffic coming into Terminal 1 at the airport Thursday morning was being diverted to the lower level, which is the baggage claim level. That area is normally only available to arriving flights. Airport officials said the departures level had been closed due to the accident. Authorities said the accident was cleared and traffic resumed as normal by about 9 a.m.
There were no reports of any injuries, but there were probably plenty of headaches and angry travelers trying to leave Minnesota on Thursday.
