Body Recovered In Elk River Missing Girl Search

ELK RIVER, Minn. (WCCO) -- Elk River police have confirmed that a body has been recovered in the search for a 2-year-old girl who went missing at an Elk River campground.

Police have yet to say whether or not it is Daisy Jo Holland, but said the body matched Daisy Jo's description.

The body was recovered by dive team members at 2:34 p.m. several hundred yards downstream from the campground.

"The body was transported to Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office for positive identification and determination of cause of death," Police Chief Brad Rolfe said. "The active search for Daisy Jo Holland has concluded."

Daisy Jo was camping with her family at Wapiti Park Campground when she disappeared. Her mother and other adults were setting up their camp site when she's believed to have wandered off.

Several hundred people searched around the campground on Saturday but Sunday's effort was only with law enforcement with a focus on the river.

No volunteers were used Sunday. Special helicopters and a fleet of boats designed to see under the dark waters of the Elk River were used to look for signs of a body.

Elk River is normally a shallow waterway but the recent rain has made the current very strong.

Rolfe said there is no indication of foul play but that the investigation is still ongoing.

When asked about negligence, Rolfe said it is way too early to discuss because no one knows for certain exactly what happened to Daisy Jo.
