Scooping Ice Cream For A World Record
WHITE BEAR LAKE, Minn. (WCCO) -- Hundreds of people headed to White Bear Lake this week for a chance at breaking a world record.
Their goal was to make the longest ice cream sundae in the world, while raising money for cancer research.
WCCO-TV's Edward Moody headed to Grandma's Bakery, where the record attempt was being orchestrated. Over 500 people were expected to show up to volunteer for the effort.
The goal is to make a sundae exceeding 1,000 feet in length. The current record-holder was 670 feet long.
Organizers said they had the necessary ingredients on hand to make their long sundae. Yes, that includes 4,000 cherries.
"We wanted to involve a charitable cause, to get the community involved," said organizer John Lupa.
All proceeds are earmarked for the White Bear Lake Area Relay for Life and American Cancer Society. The goal is to raise $12,000.
Once the sundae is completed, participants are invited to enjoy a sweet reward: a free piece of the sundae.
