School Year Starts For Minneapolis Students
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- This Monday marks the first day back in the classroom for thousands of kids in the Twin Cities. It's the first day of school in Minneapolis.
Kindergarteners don't start school until Wednesday.
For students at six high schools, that means taking city buses instead of the old yellow ones.
The district made the change this year to partner with Metro Transit, saying it offers more flexible schedules for students and it also saves money.
On Monday morning, Minneapolis superintendent Bernadeia Johnson talked with WCCO This Morning about the change and what else is expected for the school year. That includes a new Minneapolis School District Headquarters building located along West Broadway at North Fremont Avenue.
