Schaffhausen Misses Deadline For Insanity Plea
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The deadline for Aaron Schaffhausen to enter a not guilty plea by reason of insanity has come and gone. The Dec. 14 deadline was set by St. Croix County circuit court Judge Howard Cameron.
Schaffhausen is accused of stabbing and killing his three daughters in River Falls, Wis., during a surprise visit back in July, while his ex-wife was at work.
His public defender John Kuscinski told the River Falls Journal he hasn't received all the evidence to make a decision. Last week, Kuscinski told reporters he's still trying to find out if a client can be found "guilty" if they plea insanity.
The Assistant Wisconsin Attorney General Gary Freyberg has argued if the defense seeks an insanity plea they should do it sooner than later.
Schaffhausen remains in the St. Croix County Jail on a $2 million bond. He'll be back in court on Jan. 17 for a motion hearing. Cameron, the judge, has not decided if he'll allow a two-and-a-half hour interview showing Schaffhausen sobbing after his arrest into evidence.
