Excellent Educator: Sandy Boyce Of Jackson Elementary
SHAKOPEE, Minn. (WCCO) -- It's the final countdown to the last day of school! As teachers and students will break for the summer, so will our Excellent Educator awards. But we had one more we had to visit before school's out.
Sandy Boyce is an English Language Learner teacher at Jackson Elementary in Shakopee.
"It's incredible to see how much they learn and can explain back to us, and relate it back to what they have in their home life," she said.
She loves the relationships she gets to form with the students.
"I get to work with the same students through multiple grades, which is really nice," she said. "I get to see them through kindergarten to fifth grade when they leave. I get to know their families."
The impression she's left not only on her students but also on her fellow teachers is what makes her an Excellent Educator.
Sarah Hartman, a second grade teacher, welcomes Boyce into her class to help her ELL students every day.
"She makes me a better teacher," Hartman said. "She is a co-teacher. She is not someone that comes in and assists, she's not someone who is just here to help the kids that are struggling, she is part of our classroom family."
Boyce credits her success with surrounding herself with excellence.
"You want to be as good as the people that you work with," she said. "These people are amazing, I work with amazing people."
