Salvation Army Taking Donations For 'Coats For Kids' Program
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Now is the time to break out the winter coat as snow fall and freezing temperatures aren't far away.
But there are thousands of kids across Minnesota who need one. That's why the Salvation Army is holding a coat boutique Tuesday for parents who need a winter coat for their child. It's a part of the Coats for Kids program.
The Salvation Army in North Minneapolis is just one of 10 locations across the Twin Cities and metro areas giving away and collecting coats. There are hundreds of coats available at each location for children that need to stay warm this winter.
Officials said the Coats for Kids program has collected more than 6,000 coats and more money to get 2,000 more brand new coats. The Salvation Army officials said no matter how many coats they get, each year they always seem to run out.
Coats and accessories like gloves and hats are available for kids under 18. Many families who go to the Salvation Army to get coats said it takes a big financial burden off them.
The organizers of the Coats for Kids program said you can still donate at one of the 10 locations through the day for this event. There are some terms to qualify to pick up a coat at the Salvation Army free of charge. Here are the locations people can go to donate or to pick up coats.
