Salvation Army Kicks Off Red Kettle Campaign
MINNEPAOLIS (WCCO) – The Salvation Army kicked off the giving season with its "Rock the Red Kettle" campaign Saturday.
Hundreds of bell ringers set up throughout the Twin Cities Saturday afternoon.
However, they weren't wearing their usual red. Some of the bell ringers wore blaze orange for the hunting opener.
It's hoping to raise more than $11 million this season.
More than 214,000 people in the Twin Cities are helped by the Salvation Army each year.
"This is vitally important," Jeff Strickler, the Twin Cities Commander for Salvation Arm, said. "It helps to fund a lot of the services we provide, which include meeting people's basic needs."
The red kettles will be out through Dec. 24.
There are 120,000 hours of bell ringing to fill.
