Salmonella Outbreak Linked To Raw, Frozen Chicken Entrees
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Six recent cases of salmonellosis have been linked to raw, frozen chicken entrees, according to state health and agriculture officials.
The Minnesota Department of Health and the Minnesota Department of Agriculture found that the six cases, which occurred between August and September 2014, were due to the same strain of salmonella found in the Antioch Farms brand A La Kiev raw stuffed chicken breast.
Previously, from 1998 to 2008, there had been six outbreaks of salmonellosis that were linked to these types of products.
Officials said changes were then made to the labeling to more clearly state the products are raw and need to be cooked before consuming.
These past cases of salmonellosis were the first to be linked to the chicken entrees since 2008.
Only one person was hospitalized from their illness.
The MDH and MDA advise those that have these products, if they choose to use them, to cook them thoroughly before consuming.
