MSP Rolls Out The Welcome Mat For Ryder Cup Travelers
CHASKA, Minn. (WCCO) -- A quarter of a million people are gathering in Chaska for the Ryder Cup golf tournament this week at Hazletine National Golf Club.
As such, it's busy at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, where the welcome mat has been rolled out to the many golf enthusiasts expected to be flying into the Twin Cities from all over the U.S. and the world.
The crowds are expected to arrive Monday and stay strong into next week.
Michael Harris, of Sydney Australia, traveled to Minnesota over the weekend. He's here to cheer on the European team.
"It's just a buzz," he said, referring to the Ryder Cup. "The rivalry between the two teams is huge. It's not your normal golf tournament where everybody does their polite claps."
He said his trip took him about 30 hours. While he's in the Twin Cities, he said he and his friends will explore and play some golf. They've got three rounds booked.
As far as crowds go, if you are trying to get in and out of town this week, the airport expects things to run smoothly. TSA says they'll do what they need to do, opening all security lines as needed.
