Rubio Rallies In Andover Ahead Of Super Tuesday
ANDOVER, Minn. (WCCO) -- Republican candidate Marco Rubio returned to Minnesota Tuesday for his second rally in a week, and drew a big crowd.
The event at the Courtyards of Andover Events Center around lunchtime drew close to 2,000 people who wanted to hear from the Florida senator.
Shortly after taking the stage, Rubio emphasized his belief that America is moving in the wrong direction under the leadership of President Obama. He then turned his remarks to the Republican front-runner in the presidential race, Donald Trump, saying the New York businessman can't be taken seriously as a leader because he isn't trustworthy.
"You quickly realize what you have here is a world-class con-artist and a sham, who is preying on people's fears and people's anger to get their votes," Rubio told the crowd. "I have a message for him. I will campaign in all 50 states -- I will get in my pickup truck and drive all around this country if I have to -- before I allow the party of Lincoln and Reagan to fall into the hands of a con man."
He also compared Trump to a former Minnesota governor, who also ran as an outsider.
"By the way, if any state in the country has experience with electing someone who runs on the promise of being some great celebrity -- this tough-talking celebrity -- well how did that work out with Jesse Ventura?" Rubio said.
Rubio also talked about his Democratic opponents. He accused Hillary Clinton of lying about what happened at the American embassay in Benghazi, Libya, saying it made her unsuitable for the presidency. He also said Bernie Sanders, the self-described democratic socialist senator from Vermont, would continue to put America on the wrong path.
So far, Rubio hasn't won a primary or caucus in a single state. His home state of Florida holds its primary on March 15.
