RPI Beats Minn. St., Mankato 4-1
TROY, N.Y. (AP) -- RPI didn't leave anything to chance Saturday, taking a two-goal lead into the third period and coasting to a 4-1 men's college hockey win over Minnesota State, Mankato.
The Engineers (1-1-0) scored twice on the power play after going 0-for-11 in Friday's 1-0 loss to the Mavericks (1-1-0).
Guy Lebouef, Nick Bailen, Joel Malchuk and Pat Koudys scored for the Engineers after Johnny McInnis had given the Mavericks a 1-0 lead midway through the first period.
Bryce Merriam had 31 saves for RPI and Phil Cook had 34 for MSUM.
The Mavericks won Friday's game 1-0 on Cameron Cooper's goal at 18:38 of the third period.
RPI outshot MSUM for the second straight night, this time 38-32. It had a 36-20 advantage on Friday.
