Rogers Car Museum To Shift Focus Toward Sales
ROGERS (WCCO) -- For the last 18 years, the Ellingson Car Museum has been a fixture along Interstate 94 in Rogers, but later this month, the museum will change.
The owner will now sell some of his memorabilia and focus on car sales.
"The official last day that the museum will be open will be April 22," said owner Scott Ellingson.
In 1994, Ellingson opened the museum with his late father, to showcase the family's car collection. It's an 80 car walk down memory lane.
Over time, Ellingson started selling classic cars out of the business when property taxes swelled from over $20,000 a year to more than $100,000. So, at the end of the month, he'll start concentrating on car sales. He'll stop charging admission, and auction off some of the display pieces.
In the future, all of the remaining cars will be on sale, but it will have more of a showroom feel. Still, Scott is a collector at heart, so there will be plenty to see, but now it'll be free.
"I think in the long run, it's still going to be a good place to come if you want to look at old cars," he said.
The auction will be held April 27th and 28th. There will be a catalog online in the coming days. It will be located here.
