Robbinsdale Father Severely Injured In Sled Accident
ROBBINSDALE, Minn. (WCCO) - A Robbinsdale man has been in critical condition for over a week after a sledding accident.
Family members say George Beasley flipped and landed on his head while sledding at Lions Valley Park in Robbinsdale last Sunday.
It's the latest pitfall in what's already been a rough year for the Beasley family. George's wife, Amby, says the day of the accident started out as a pleasant one in the snow.
"We loaded up the kids, we all went sledding, we all took turns going down the hill," Amby said.
But their fun turned to panic and uncertainty when George decided to go off a popular jump.
"He took the jump, flipped over like a rag doll and landed on his head and the side of his face," she said.
The impact left George badly banged up. Doctors say he suffered brain bleeding, a collapsed lung, fractured ribs, lacerated spleen and liver with internal bleeding.
"It's hard to imagine. I still think, this many days out, how could this possibly be from a sledding accident?" Amby said.
In the ICU since last Sunday, George has at least three to four months of recovery ahead, including in-patient rehab.
The bills will be overwhelming in a year when George had to leave his job. The Beasleys are also losing their home and have transportation problems.
"A lot of struggles, a lot of car issues. Stuff at the house happening. It's just all happening all at once," she said.
Amby says she's doing her best to keep going for their two small children, herself and George. But it's not easy.
"I'm really trying, I have my faith and, you know, George is in the Lord's hands," she said.
