Road Closures In Twin Cities Ahead Of Twin Cities Marathon
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A number of roads will be closed for part of the weekend as thousands of runners get ready to take their marks for the annual Twin Cities Marathon.
The race starts Sunday morning, with the better portion starting at 8 a.m. for the main race. (There is also a 10-mile that starts at 6:54 a.m.)
The race begins near U.S. Bank Stadium in downtown Minneapolis, moving from there along Sixth Street, down Marquette Avenue, onto 12th Street and onto Hennepin Avenue. The race does deviate from the previous year's route due to construction along Hennepin.
Here are the current road closures reported on the marathon's website:
Minneapolis: From 5th Avenue to 11th Avenue and from 7th Street to 3rd Street will be closed on Sunday, October 6 at 4:00 a.m. for start line setup and will reopen at approximately 9 a.m.
Minneapolis: Traffic turning onto the course on Sunday, October 6 will be shut down at 6:30 a.m. for the 10 Mile, and 7:30 a.m. for the marathon. Cross-traffic will be allowed to flow until the wheelchair athletes begin to approach.
Saint Paul: Traffic turning onto the course on Sunday, October 6 will be shut down at 6:30 a.m.
Saint Paul: Summit Avenue between Ramsey Street and Portland Ave will be closed from Saturday, October 5 at 6:45 a.m. through Sunday, October 6
at 6:00 p.m. Detour route on Portland Ave to Arundel Street.
