'Cody The Coyote' Euthanized After Capture In Richfield
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A coyote spotted wandering around the south metro has been euthanized.
The coyote, who came to be known as "Cody," was captured Sunday in Richfield after suffering from a leg injury, and was taken to the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Roseville. Center Executive Director Phil Jenny says the animal had a host of problems and would not have recovered.
"The fact that it was not able to stand -- that might have been stress-related," he said. "There's the chronic arthritis that it had in both of its front paws. It had an old gunshot wound. And it had a very, very badly fractured elbow."
The animal had been seen in several areas on the west side of Richfield, including the grounds of the Best Buy campus headquarters. He was also spotted in Edina.
Jenny says it's a sad story, especially when Cody's travels captured social media the way they did. But, he says nature is not a "Disney movie," and some tough things happen to wild animals.
