Reward Offered For Info On Cat Tossing Incident
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A cat tossed out of a van on May 2 is severally injured but will survive. Now, a $2,500 reward is being offered to find the person responsible.
According to Roseville police, someone inside a blue van driving south on Rice Street threw the cat out a window. A witness quickly rescued the cat and then called police.
Officer Jason Gehrman responded to the call then rushed the cat to the University of Minnesota's Veterinary Medical Center, where the cat received first aid.
Gehrman then called his father, Dr. Robert Gehrman, who runs the Gehrman Animal Hospital in Minnetonka.
"I received a call from my son saying the cat had been injured, and he needed a place to take the cat," Robert Gehrman said.
The cat suffered severe injuries to its right rear foot, the skin and tissue on its paws were ripped off and teeth shattered. The cat's front toes, rear foot and part of its tail had to be amputated.
Now, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to an arrest.
In the meantime, the cat, named Blue, will survive.
"My son Jason may adopt the kitty," Robert Gehrman said. "There are also multiple other people who have expressed an interest in doing so."
The driver of the blue van could be facing felony animal cruelty charges.
