Returning Soldier Surprises Daughters At Target Field
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- No military family likes waiting for mom or dad to return home from their tour overseas, but two local girls got quite the surprise at Target Field.
Annie and Alex Buresh had no idea their father was coming home this weekend.
Waiting in the dugout on Sunday, Master Sgt. Robert Buresh was nervous. His daughters didn't even know he was back from Afghanistan. He had just arrived two hours earlier.
"My knees are wobbly," he said.
To get the girls to Target Field, their mother had to tell them a little white lie. She had them thinking they were taking part in a game on the field, saying they should run the bases to see who wins.
The ruse worked, as the girls' father stepped out from his hiding place behind TC Bear.
Sgt. Buresh spent the last four months serving in the Minnesota Air National Guard. After six deployments, he said this was by far the most memorable homecoming.
"Thanks to the Twins doing this for me, this is a moment they're going to remember for the rest of their lives," said Buresh.
The whole thing was pretty tricky to pull off. Originally, Sgt. Buresh wanted to surprise the girls at school, but when he saw he'd be home on a weekend he started emailing the Twins. They pulled everything together.
