"We did see some values come down early this year," said Brian Steinhoff, who is president of the Minnesota Retailers Association. "I think that's the under-card and the main event starts this Friday."
Steinhoff said he expects sales this holiday season to be 2.5 to 3.5 percent higher than last year. He said many retailers have the "sense" that consumer confidence has risen slightly.
He notes that Christmas falls on a Saturday this year, so retailers will miss out on one weekend of shopping.
