Republicans Pitching Jobs Plan To Iowa Voters
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- Republican presidential candidates are telling Iowans how they would bring back the nation's crumbling manufacturing core and rebuild the struggling U.S. economy.
A Tuesday forum in Pella, Iowa, is set to give many of contenders a chance to outline their economic plans. Yet two central figures to the GOP race have decided set to skip it: Herman Cain, the Georgia businessman who tops a new Iowa poll, and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, who is essentially tied with Cain.
Cain is spending Tuesday in Washington. Romney's aides say he has a scheduling conflict.
Texas Gov. Rick Perry, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, former Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania, Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota and Rep. Ron Paul of Texas plan to participate in the event.
