Report: Target To Raise Minimum Wage To $9
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Target Corp. is reportedly raising its minimum wage for all workers to $9 an hour in an effort to compete with rivals such as Walmart.
Citing sources familiar with the matter, Reuters reported Wednesday that the Minneapolis-based retailer will raise workers' wages next month.
If accurate, the move would come following recent pressure from labor groups demanding a "living wage" and after Walmart, the nation's largest retailer, said it would bump its minimum wage to $9 in April and up to $10 next year.
Earlier this month, Target cut 1,700 jobs from its downtown headquarters as part of a restructuring effort to make the company more agile in competing in the modern retail arena.
Also on Wednesday, the company extended its return policy to one year for Target owned brands and items bought through its gift registry service.
