Report Shows Teens Having Less Children Across The Country

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The number of teenage girls having children has dropped dramatically both across the country and in Minnesota, according to new numbers released Thursday.

A report shows the national teen birth rate has dropped 25 percent in five years. Here in Minnesota, our teen birth rate fell 31 percent. Minnesota is tied for the sixth lowest in the country.

In 22 states, teen Hispanic birth rates fell at least 40 percent. Experts said they believe the explanation is complicated and probably varies from state to state.

An overall decline in births the past five years is attributed to a weak economy.
