Report Shares Tales Of American Indian Sex Victims
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- Advocates for sexual assault victims are releasing a report about the horrors of American Indian women who have been forced into prostitution.
The report is called Garden of Truth and is based on the personal stories of 105 American Indian women in the Twin Cities, Duluth and Bemidji.
The women have shared details about the violence they experienced, including child sexual abuse, rape and frequent beatings. Those behind the study say 98 percent of the women interviewed have been homeless, and 92 percent wanted to escape prostitution but felt they had no other options.
The report is being released Thursday by the Minnesota Indian Women's Sexual Assault Coalition and Prostitution Research and Education.
