Report: Bicycling In Mpls. Up 56 Percent Since 2007
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A new report says bicycling and walking has increased over the past six years in Minneapolis.
According to the City of Minneapolis Bicyclist and Pedestrian Count report 2012, biking in Minneapolis increased by 56 percent since 2007, and walking has increased by 22 percent.
A report by Bike Walk Twin Cities (BWTC) also reports that bicycling and walking has increased throughout the Twin Cities by 51 and 24 percent, respectively.
The data was collected annually each September at 30 benchmark locations for bicyclists and 23 locations for pedestrians. BWTC has 40 benchmark locations in cities such as St. Paul, St. Louis Park and Falcon Heights.
The top locations for biking and walking are near the University of Minnesota, downtown Minneapolis, the Midtown Greenway and the Cedar Lake Trail.
