Report: Bachmann Gains Swiss Citizenship
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Rep. Michele Bachmann is now a citizen of Switzerland.
Politico reported Tuesday that she gained Swiss citizenship on March 19. Her husband, Marcus, registered with the Swiss government in March.
Both his parents were born in Switzerland, and his citizenship means she automatically has access to citizenship.
When asked if she would consider running for political office in Switzerland, Bachmann jokingly said: "Really? Well, as you can see, there's a lot of competition behind me that I would have to run against, and it would be very stiff, because they're very good."
The family's three youngest children are also Swiss citizens, the report said.
Bachmann's spokesperson, Becky Rogness, is reported saying that the family applied for Swiss citizenship because some of the children wanted to use the dual-citizenship available to them. In other words: they did it for the kids.
