2 High School Students Injured By Bus In Plymouth
PLYMOUTH, Minn. (AP/WCCO) – Two high school track team members were struck and injured by a school bus outside an elementary school in Plymouth.
The accident happened about 3:30 p.m. Monday outside Plymouth Creek Elementary. Wayzata School District spokeswoman Amy Parnell says one student, Alex O'Connell, was taken to North Memorial Hospital. His was found under the bus when emergency crews arrived. The other student suffered minor injuries.
O'Connell's mother told WCCO that Alex will undergo surgery on his leg. He also suffered a concussion.
Plymouth Police Sgt. Joe Gebhardt says the bus was carrying middle-school students, and no one on the bus was hurt.
Capt. Craig Lindman described it as an unfortunate accident.
"Several cars were stopped in one lane, and, unfortunately, the school bus went down the other lane and didn't not stop, or yield to the pedestrians," he said.
Police are investigating the accident.
