5-Star DeLaSalle Recruit Reid Travis Chooses To Attend Stanford
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- One of Minnesota's three sterling five-star recruits is leaving his home state to play college basketball at Stanford.
DeLaSalle's Reid Travis had the Gophers and the Cardinal as his two favorites, and he decided at Friday's press conference at his high school to head west.
Travis averaged 27 points and 10-plus rebounds last year as a junior and was recruited by most major colleges in the country, including Duke and Stanford.
His DeLaSalle team is the defending state champion, and currently ranked No. 19 in the nation.
Fellow marquee Minnesota basketball recruits Rashad Vaughn, of Robbinsdale, and Tyus Jones, of Apple Valley, have yet to select a school. Vaughn is now playing at Findley Prep in Nevada.
"I love the U first off – there's no bad blood there," Travis said. "I really like what they're doing with their program."
He said the level of comfort he experienced at Stanford was unparalleled.
"I feel Stanford University is the best option where I can choose to start this next chapter in my life," he said, as he added the school had been recruiting him since he was a freshman.
Travis' older brother plays basketball at Harvard University.
