Red Wing Paints Over Prince Monument On Bluff
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Residents in Red Wing are taking exception to the removal of a large tribute to the memory of Prince that was created in their city.
Not long after Prince's death last Thursday, someone painted a purple glyph representing "The Artist Formerly Known As Prince," which Prince changed his public name to in a dispute with Warner Brothers, on a bluff.
Not long after, city officials painted over the tag, prompting outcry from the community, especially on social media.
On Tuesday, the city announced that they were following current policy regarding paint on the bluffs, whenever anyone complains.
However, they are holding a public hearing to discuss the current policy. The meeting is scheduled May 12 at the Red Wing Public Library at 6 p.m.
"Until the public meeting process is complete and a policy is approved by City Council, the current policy will be followed," the city said.
