Red Wing High School Vandalized Overnight
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Authorities are investigating after graffiti was found on the outside of Red Wing High School and the soccer fields were damaged.
According to the school's superintendent, Karsten Anderson, the vandalism occurred sometime between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. Monday.
The custodial staff discovered the graffiti where someone painted over the windows and doors of the front of the building with the words, "Merica, Never Forget, 9/11 and USA."
Most of the windows were cleaned off but the doors will need to be repainted, Anderson said.
Vandals also drove over the soccer fields sometime on Saturday night, causing damage to the grass. Police responded to a noise complaint at the school and found one of the vehicles stuck in mud around 10:30 p.m. Saturday.
They say two 16-year-olds were driving different cars on the fields, with five passengers between the two vehicles.
School officials are reviewing the security video to try and find out who is responsible.
Police say there's nothing that indicates those who drove over the soccer fields are the same people who did the graffiti.
There is no estimate on damages at this point.
Anderson said he assumes this is related to homecoming, which is this week, but can't say for sure.
