MINNEAPOLIS (AP/WCCO) — Both Minnesota and Wisconsin are dealing with wildfires and the American Red Cross says it is helping out victims.
Multiple wildfires are burning in northwestern Minnesota, and the Red Cross is providing staff and supplies to two shelters in Wadena and Hubbard counties.
The Red Cross said that on Tuesday night 85 people who escaped wildfires stayed at Red Cross shelters in Minnesota and Wisconsin.
On the Wisconsin side, a wildfire has consumed about 8,700 acres in Douglas and Bayfield County but is about 90 percent contained.
A Red Cross emergency response vehicle is going to western Wisconsin to help provide water and snacks and other relief.
The Minnesota Red Cross is also helping with Wisconsin shelters along with the Red Cross' Western Wisconsin Region.
If you are evacuating to a shelter, the Red Cross suggests you bring the following:
-- Prescriptions and emergency medications
-- Foods that meet unusual dietary requirements
-- Extra clothing, pillows, blankets, hygiene supplies and other comfort items
-- Supplies needed for children and infants, such as diapers, formula and toys and special items for family members who are elderly or disabled
-- You should also try to contact relatives to let them know where you are and how you are doing
