Recipients Of 'Extreme Makeover' Have Extreme Bill

MOORHEAD, Minn. (AP) -- The Minnesota family that was given a new 5,200-square-foot home as part of the ABC show "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" has an extreme property tax bill to go with it.

The bill for Bill and Adair Grommesh's new home in Moorhead will eventually be $5,400 a year, following a two-year tax abatement for home improvements. The taxes on their old home with 1,100 square feet was about $1,500.

A community fundraiser was held last year when the new home project was under way. Organizer say it raised about $50,000 for various expenses, including paying the old mortgage.

The Forum says the Grommesh family runs a nonprofit organization called Hope Inc. which provides support for families with children who use wheelchairs. The couple has a son, Garrett, who was born with spina bifida and uses a wheelchair.
