Recent Rains Are Chipping Away At Drought Status
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Our recent rains are chipping away at Minnesota's drought.
Coming on the heels of the driest autumn on record and a mild winter, the recent rains are just what we've needed, according to Climatologist Greg Spoden.
Spoden is with the Minnesota Deparment of Natural Resources and says the recent precipitation is a good start.

"We're going to have to continue to receive these welcome rains," he said. "We'll keep chipping away at the deficit. And we'll perhaps see some improvements in things such as lake levels, stream flow, wetland levels and go from there."
Spoden says many areas are still some six inches short of precipitation over a nine-month period.
As for lake levels, Lake Minnetonka rose more than an inch after Tuesday night's rain. But it's still about as low as it's been in the past 10 years.
