Ramsey Police, State Patrol Squad Cars Collide In N. Metro
RAMSEY, Minn. (WCCO) – A Ramsey Police squad car and a Minnesota State Patrol squad car were involved in an accident in the north metro Tuesday afternoon, according to Anoka County Dispatch.
The dispatch center said the accident was reported at about 4:47 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of Highway 47 and 156th Lane in Ramsey. The two squad cars were heading to Champlin to assist on a call. It's not known at this time what type of call they were assisting.
Authorities said an ambulance was called to the scene, but it's not clear at this time if any officers were seriously hurt in the crash. Lt. Eric Roeske with the Minnesota State Patrol said the State Patrol officer suffered a minor knee injury, and the Ramsey Police officer was transported to Mercy Hospital with non-life threatening injuries to his wrist and head.
The State Patrol said both vehicles were heading south on Highway 47, in a non-emergency mode. The Ramsey Police squad was in front of the State Patrol squad when it slowed down and moved to the right turn lane, activated its lights and made a U-turn in front of the State Patrol vehicle to go after a vehicle that committed a traffic violation.
The State Patrol squad then struck the driver's side of the Ramsey squad.
