Ramsey Man Accused Of Inflicting Brain Injury On 77-Year-Old Father-In-Law
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A Ramsey man is facing charges accusing him of seriously injuring his 77-year-old father-in-law, who remains hospitalized with a brain injury, according to charges filed in Anoka County.
On Wednesday, 40-year-old Mehendra Sukhdeo of Ramsey appeared in Anoka County District Court on charges of first-degree assault and domestic assault in connection to the March 7 incident.
According to the criminal complaint, Sukhdeo became angry with his father-in-law and struck him in the head so hard the victim's dentures were knocked loose.
The following day, the victim told Sukhdeo's wife that he needed a doctor, but she refused to take him. When he fell unconscious the next day, his wife had a neighbor call 911.
Doctors then confirmed the victim suffered a serious brain injury caused by Sukhdeo's assault, the complaint said.
"This is a terrible case of elder abuse at the hands of a family member," Anoka County Attorney Tony Palumbo said.
The victim remains unresponsive and in the hospital.
Sukhdeo's bail was set at $200,000 and his next court appearance will be April 14, 2015.
