Rain, Snow This Week Could Fuel Flooding
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- While the state is already bracing for predicted record flooding, periods of both rain and snow forecasted for the next few days certainly won't help matters.
Meteorologist Chris Shaffer said a few rain showers will start developing Monday evening, before changing over to snow by Tuesday night and early Wednesday. In the Twin Cities, we could get a few inches of snow, though higher amounts are predicted for the northern part of the state -- with parts estimated to see several inches.
A winter storm warning has been issued for northern parts of the state, including the cities of Two Harbors, Duluth, Cloquet and Superior. A blizzard warning will go in effect from 1 p.m. Tuesday to 7 p.m. Wednesday in Duluth.
Tuesday's forecast includes periods of rain with a possible chance of isolated thunderstorms. That rain will turn into a rain/snow mix in the evening, before the snow takes over around midnight.
Wednesday's snow will continue into the evening, dropping a few inches.
Flood warnings continue for Crow River at Rockford and the Minnesota River in Savage and Shakopee. Moderate flooding is predicted for both.
