Rain Or Shine, Rolling Stones Fans Are Ready To Rock
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - It's been raining on the roadies who've been setting up for Wednesday night's concert.
Thousands of fans are packing TCF Bank Stadium at the University of Minnesota for the concert, the legendary band's first Minnesota visit in ten years.
Avid Rolling Stones fans share an iconic logo and unbreakable bond, trading greatest hits and favorite venues.
WCCO's Bill Hudson interviewed his big sister, Dianne, before the concert.
"Their 'A Bigger Bang' show was just fabulous," she said.
Bob Ackermann came here from Chicago after already seeing the first Zip Code tour stop in San Diego. It's just one of 50 times he's seen the Stones.
"My family asks, 'Don't they play the same songs?'" he said. "I go, 'They're different at every concert, and the people are all different. It's all about the people at a Stones concert."
Hendrick Mulder and his teenage daughters flew across the ocean from the Netherlands to see the tour.
"This will be my third time," he said. "Two years ago in London and Amsterdam was the first time."
The Zip Code tour is taking on a hint of maroon and gold and, despite the weather, fans and families won't let a little rain get in the way. The tickets are Dylan Wurster's birthday present from his cool parents.
"Always one of my favorite bands for 54 years, and they're all original members," he said. "It's just amazing!"
With the stage in place, truckloads of merchandise were getting unloaded. Nearly $2 million worth!
They travel with 106 different hats, shirts, mugs and memorabilia to sell -- about three times what most other bands offer.
Both Charlie Watts and Ron Woods celebrated birthdays here in the Twin Cities the past two nights. With most of the Stones in their early to mid 70s, it makes you wonder if they've got any more tours left in them.
The music is supposed to start at 8 p.m., rain or shine. Lightning within six miles would force a delay.
The music will go on under a covered stage, so bring rain gear if you're planning on attending the concert. There are no umbrellas allowed in TCF Stadium.
