Radiothon Raises Enough For 100,000 Thanksgiving Meals
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- In its 11th year staging the annual Hunger Mission Radiothon, NewsRadio 830 WCCO managed to raise nearly $200,000 to benefit the Union Gospel Mission.
The Radiothon was held at the Mall of America Rotunda on Tuesday from 5:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The purpose of the Radiothon was to feed and care for the hungry, homeless and unemployed in the area.
Each $1.96 in donations was enough to feed and care for one person this Thanksgiving holiday.
The grand total raised by the Radiothon was $194,000, which will be enough to provide nearly 100,000 meals.
"It was the best Radiothon that we've ever done with WCCO," Union Gospel Mission's director of communications Gail Gisi said. "In our 11-year history, we've reached over $1 million raised."
Every day, the Union Gospel Mission feeds and shelters more than 800 people.
Gisi says that in the Twin Cities more than often the people they help have been ignored in their communities.
